{"id":571,"date":"2010-01-04T17:11:32","date_gmt":"2010-01-04T21:11:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/africanstudies\/?page_id=571"},"modified":"2024-06-11T11:18:33","modified_gmt":"2024-06-11T15:18:33","slug":"nokoko","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/africanstudies\/nokoko\/","title":{"rendered":"IAS Journal: Nokoko"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><em>Nokoko<\/em>\u00a0Vision and Mission<\/h2>\n<p>We are committed to a world where people are free from all forms of oppression and exploitation, where\u00a0respect for individuals\u2019 varied differences is maintained, and where everyone can realise their full potentials.<\/p>\n<p>A critical step in creating such a world requires us to analyze, reflect on, and debate the world as it is, as it\u00a0might, could, or should be.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nokoko<\/em>\u00a0aims to be a site for such important conversations related to Africa, the African diaspora, and the\u00a0continent\u2019s relationship with the rest of the world. Nokoko is a platform for public intellectuals, academics,\u00a0social movements and organizations that share our vision.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by the Institute of African Studies, at Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada), the journal\u00a0<em>Nokoko<\/em>\u00a0offers a\u00a0space for emerging and established scholars to publish and engage in discussions about their work on Africa\u00a0and the African diaspora. Published annually, articles and contributions to the journal are peer-reviewed.\u00a0Submissions should be robust, clearly written and accessible to academic and non-academic readership alike\u00a0(see below for author guidelines).<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>Nokoko<\/em>\u2019 is a Ga word that means something new, novel, surprising and interesting.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nokoko<\/em> is currently published once a year.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nokoko <\/em>is referenced by ProQuest\u2019s \u201cBlack Studies Center\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.proquest.com\/en-US\/catalogs\/databases\/detail\/bsc.shtml\">http:\/\/www.proquest.com\/en-US\/catalogs\/databases\/detail\/bsc.shtml<\/a>) and is recognized as a refereed journal by Ulrich.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>****************************************************************************************************<\/p>\n<h2>NokokoPod<\/h2>\n<p>We also have a new podcast series, <strong>NokokoPod<\/strong>. NokokoPod is a companion to the journal, covering current African issues.\u00a0 It aims to bring forth new perspectives that broaden, trouble, complicate and enrich current discourses.\u00a0 Edited and annotated versions of the conversations will be made available on the journal website.
