He talked about the surprising inspiration he found in a timeless nursery rhyme, the poem his wife recited on their first date that hooked him, and how some poems are only children and others have siblings.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"buy-the-book\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wlupress.wlu.ca\/Books\/D\/DisPlace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>DisPlace: The Poetry of Nduka Otiono<\/i><\/a>\u00a0(Wilfrid Laurier University Press, edited by\u00a0<b>Peter Midgley<\/b>\u00a0with an afterword by\u00a0<b>Chris Dunton<\/b>) gathers powerhouse poems from one of Canada&#8217;s most insightful and timely poets.<\/p>\n<p><b>Nduka Otiono<\/b>\u00a0is the author of two previously published collections (<i>Voices in the Rainbow\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>Love in a Time of Nightmares<\/i>), and has established himself as an essential voice in discussions of diasporic life and identity.<\/p>\n<p>Engaging with experiences of Canada and Nigeria, Otiono plays with movement and form, weaving together multiple poetic traditions to explore identity, trauma, language,\u00a0and the nature\u2014and limits\u2014of poetry to uncover the self and the collective.
