Platforms with AI Data Protection at Carleton<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Microsoft Copilot is Carleton’s only approved GenAI platform because it offers\u00a0Enterprise Data Protection and has successfully completed the university’s Data Protection Risk Assessment (DPRA) process<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enterprise Data Protection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

When users log into Microsoft Copilot<\/a> with their MyCarletonOne password, they benefit from Enterprise Data Protection. This means that their AI chat session, along with files they might upload and prompts they might input, will not be stored, shared or used for training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n 2. The Green Shield Means You’re Safe\n <\/h2>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n \n\n

After logging in, look for the green shield in the upper right-hand corner of their chat session to confirm that Enterprise Data Protection is enabled.<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n\n

Data Protection Risk Assessments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A Data Protection Risk Assessment (DPRA) evaluates the cybersecurity controls for cloud data, the protections for personally identifiable information (PII) and legal and insurance protections for Carleton. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This includes \u201cfree\u201d services. AI is extremely resource intensive and vendors of LLMs profit from access to our data. Use in an academic setting may violate the LLM\u2019s terms of use, as most \u201cfree\u201d software is free for home use only.  Using unapproved AI puts Carleton at legal, financial and reputational risk. Such use may contravene the university\u2019s Cloud Computing Security policy.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Microsoft Copilot<\/a> is the only GenAI platform that has successfully completed a DPRA, and is therefore Carleton’s only approved platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
