What does a grade mean? <\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Professor Benjamin Woo<\/strong> began his proposal for a Carleton University Teaching Achievement Award<\/a> with that question. The awards are \u201cintended to enhance the teaching of their recipients and the quality of instruction at Carleton.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an entry entitled \u201cDoes Specifications Grading Add Up? Evaluating Alternative Approaches in University Assessment,\u201d Woo proposed convening a group of professors and instructors to pilot and measure a new approach to assessment, which \u201cgives students greater agency and responsibility in their learning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the two-year pilot project, Woo will report back to the University community on his findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How shall I be in this world?<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the challenge Marylynn Steckley<\/strong> offers her students in Global and International Studies. She holds an Instructor II designation in Arthur Kroeger College and has won a Carleton University Professional Achievement Award<\/a> in recognition of her teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steckley is a critical geographer by training whose passion is to \u201cenliven her students to engage meaningfully in confronting global inequality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
