ALiGN stands in solidarity with the global community in fighting climate change. The strikes were started by the Swedish young activist Greta Thunberg in September 2018 and now are happening in different communities around the world. They are joined by people protesting the lack of awareness and action towards climate change. ALiGN is proud of Carleton University’s supportive stance of the student walkout on Friday, September 27, on Parliament Hill. Preceding the event, Carleton faculty members and students had launched a petition supporting the youth climate movement and calling on “scientists, scholars, and citizens…to support the youth movement, to defend their right to strike, and to denounce actions that threaten or demean its participants”. In the petition, they pledge their support for youth’s demand for urgent action and confirm their ongoing commitment to support climate change action. The petition has received more than 170 signatures from Carleton’s community members.
