Adherence to the principles ensures the accuracy of research.<\/p>\n<p>Researcher should undertake:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Responsibility to learn:<\/strong> Familiarize yourself with your office of Indigenous Initiatives, approaches to research, relevant institutional MOUs, and the principles of Indigenous data sovereignty.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Responsibility to recognize:<\/strong> Recognize the distinct cultures, languages, traditions, policies, and governance of the Indigenous community or communities you seek to engage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Responsibility to reciprocity:<\/strong> Commit to a reciprocal, mutually beneficial relationship that supports Indigenous self-determination and extends beyond the scope of the research project.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Responsibility to seek continuous consent:<\/strong> Obtain permission for the research proposal, data management plan, dissemination plan, and use of technology (especially AI) before and throughout the project. Seek consent before publishing or sharing any form of Indigenous data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Responsibility to protect:<\/strong> Ensure secure, community-accessible backups of Indigenous data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Responsibility to repair:<\/strong> Acknowledge mistakes promptly and take appropriate steps toward remediation in accordance with Carleton\u2019s framework and the Indigenous community\u2019s protocols.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carleton University holds high standards for research ethics and academic integrity.
