This study, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalacademies.org\/our-work\/laying-the-foundation-for-new-and-advanced-nuclear-reactors-in-the-united-states\"><strong>Laying the Foundation for New and Advanced Nuclear Reactors in the United States<\/strong><\/a>&#8220;, is being undertaken by the Board on Energy and Environmental Systems (BEES) of the U.S.&nbsp;National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study will be highly interdisciplinary, focusing not only on the technical requirements for developing a new generation of advanced reactors, but also on: economic, regulatory, and business issues facing nuclear power in a changing energy system; the viability of new reactor technologies in sectors other than electric power generation; and future workforce needs to sustain or expand nuclear science and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The consensus study report is due to be published in summer 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ahmed Abdulla has been selected to serve on a committee that will investigate the opportunities and challenges facing the future of nuclear power in the United States.
