These models will support decisions on where to deploy Negative Emissions Technologies (NETs, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-020-20437-0\">direct air capture of CO<sub>2<\/sub> (DAC)<\/a> and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS)) to minimize grid energy requirements and maximize renewable energy use. In addition to model development, the researcher will be expected to write high-quality scholarly output in peer-reviewed scientific journals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The overall goal of this research is to <a href=\"https:\/\/iopscience.iop.org\/article\/10.1088\/1748-9326\/abd19e\/meta\">guide successful near-term deployment<\/a> of these technologies, which form a cornerstone of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/services\/environment\/weather\/climatechange\/climate-plan\/climate-plan-overview\/emissions-reduction-2030.html\">Canadian government\u2019s 2030 Emissions Reductions Plan<\/a>. This research is part of a six-year grant supported by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). As such, the postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to brief ECCC and other government and industry stakeholders on the results of the research and modeling efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are looking for a candidate with a background in operations research, industrial engineering, energy systems engineering, electrical engineering, engineering and public policy or related fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In particular, the following requirements apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strong interest in operations research and use of&nbsp;<strong>data and optimization models<\/strong>&nbsp;for modeling problems in energy systems and planning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong&nbsp;<strong>optimization modeling skills<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with algebraic modeling languages, such as Pyomo, GAMS or AMPL<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with Python coding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with independently conducting research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to work individually as well as part of a team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent communication and writing skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Available now, with <strong>latest starting date: September 2023<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location:&nbsp;Ottawa, ON, Canada<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure full consideration, candidates should express interest by&nbsp;<strong>March 1, 2023,&nbsp;<\/strong>by emailing&nbsp;<strong>Dr. Kristen R.
