Carleton University will develop a teaching certificate program and an expanded academic review process with $500,000 in funding from Ontario’s Productivity and Innovation Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ontario Government announced a total of $2.15 million for Ottawa post-secondary institutions on Friday at the University of Ottawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The fund provides us all with the opportunity to step back from the day-to-day responsibilities of providing a great education to our students, to think creatively about ways to improve the quality of that education, and to explore what is feasible and what is going to be effective, both educationally and financially,” said John Shepherd, vice-provost and associate vice-president (academic).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funds will help Carleton develop and deliver a teaching certificate program focusing on hybrid and online delivery. Carleton will also develop a project to further integrate the university\u2019s academic and financial planning processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This fall, more than 568,000 students went to Ontario post-secondary institutions, universities and colleges,” said Labour Minister Yasir Naqvi. “That is a very exciting number, an all-time high number in Ontario, and it demonstrates that young people believe education is a key to success. As we develop this new economy in our province, post great recession, those high-end skills are very much needed.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Productivity and Innovation Fund is a one-time, $47-million initiative of the Government of Ontario to support innovation and enhance the learning experience at Ontario\u2019s universities and colleges. Providing students with affordable, world-class, post-secondary education that equips them with the skills they need to succeed is part of Ontario\u2019s economic plan to invest in people, build modern infrastructure and support a dynamic and innovative business climate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
