Speaker: Lisa Rapoport, PLANT Architect Inc
Lecture: Between the Cracks

Presented in partnership with the Forum Founding Sponsors.

Continuing with the theme of “Cities and Landscapes in Common”, the lecture features Lisa Rapoport from PLANT Architect Inc, an award-winning Toronto firm that designs public space in the margins – in tiny remnants of ‘no man’s land’, in the murky edges of established parks and squares where public life falters.

In Ottawa, Lisa heads the design team for With Words as their Actions, a public artwork for Lyon Station, on Ottawa’s new Confederation Line LRT transit corridor.

Lisa’s lecture “Between the Cracks” will present highlights of her firm’s compelling and original urban work. In a range of work from the tiny ‘Tête à Tête’ to Nathan Phillips Square, she will discuss how these projects create a broader network of thriving public space with social, cultural and ecological impact.

Widely known for her strong conceptual vision and rigorous approach to the practice of institutional and residential architecture and urban design, Lisa explores the relationship between architecture, landscape, and the public realm through her work. Since co-founding PLANT in 1995, Lisa has led many of the studio’s award-winning projects. These include the Dublin Grounds of Remembrance; the Forest Hill Village North Gateway; and Liza’s Garden at the Royal Ontario Museum. Projects also include the Ground Plane design of the Governor General’s Medal in Architecture-winning Nathan Phillips Square Revitalization and the Woven Stories permanent installation at Sheridan College’s Davis Campus.

Lisa Rapoport teaches at John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture at the University of Toronto and serves as an adjunct professor at the Waterloo School of Architecture. She has co-led studios at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and has been a visiting critic at many other schools.
