Description

This studio course will develop a comprehensive building design that will build upon collaborative materials research, construction details and innovative fabrication practices. We will explicitly investigate concepts of digital fabrication using portland cement based materials and explore fabrication concepts from other industries.
Each student will become familiar with various parts of the fabrication processes and material innovations in detail and the studio will build up a series of reference cards which will serve as a collaborative shared database for the semester.

Over the semester, each student will develop and employ unique material fabrication systems and create a full set of construction documents for a cold climate region building design including context analysis, energy systems design, material sourcing, costs, material flows, tools used, detail drawings and large scale mock-ups.

Students will participate in the ACSA #BUILT2LAST competition creating a doubleprogrammed space:

Community Center/Disaster Relief Command Center including a:
1) Digital Library
2) Indoor Classroom / Post Event Medical +
Special Needs Shelter
3) Indoor Gym / Stom & Post-Event Shelter
4) Outdoor Classroom
5) Exterior Plaza with Gym_Playground / Post

Total indoor space: 685 m2
