Chittagong, Bangladesh."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<strong>Abstract:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The vehicle ownership is increasing day-by-day with the population growth of Bangladesh. The traffic scenario is also changing along with this change. For this reason need to construct different types of transportation system as like road transport, air transport and railway transport. But road transport required much less capital investment as compared to other modes of transport such as railways and air transport. The cost of constructing, operating and maintaining roads is cheaper than that of the railways. Roads are generally constructed by the government and local authorities and only small revenue is charged for the use of roads. Chittagong- Cox\u2019s Bazar highwaycurrently is one of the busiest roads in the country having length of 150km (93 miles). Cox\u2019s Bazar is a city of fishing port, tourism center anddistrict headquarters in southeasternBangladesh. Every year a large amount of tourist come to visit this place. For these purposes the number of vehicle of this road is increasing day by day which affect the highway capacity. The capacity of the highway depends on the flow. This paper demonstrates applicability of VISSIM software to determine capacity of two lane two way highways under mixed traffic flow conditions. Traffic flow data collected on a section of two-lane undivided highway and some other sets of field data are used in developing VISSIM model. Driving behavior parametersof Wiedemann 74 model are first determined for homogeneous traffic conditions having only one of the four types of vehicles in the stream and then results are aggregated to get the values of these parameters for a mixed traffic stream. Further analysis of field data with calibrated values parametersof Wiedemann 74 indicated a good match between field and simulated capacity. The procedure is shown to work on another section of two-lane undivided highway.
