Unfamiliar with the diagnosis and unsure where to turn, Abby and Paul started to connect with supports in their community.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\">\n<p><em>When Kai enrolled in Secret Agent Society, he struggled with social norms like giving other people a chance to talk during a conversation and not engaging with his peers if they were talking about something he wasn\u2019t interested in,\u201d ~ Abby, Kai\u2019s mother<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Webinar \u2013 Moving Past the Pandemic- Considerations for Autistic Children &amp;  Caregivers in Canada\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IcOXr7kDBfQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"dr-vivian-lee-and-colleagues-speaks-with-autism-ontario\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dr. Vivian Lee and colleagues speaks with Autism Ontario<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult for many, but recent research suggests that the mental health and overall wellbeing of families of children on the autism spectrum have been disproportionally impacted by multiple waves of lockdowns across Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this panel with researchers Dr. Vivian Lee (Carleton University) and Jonathan Weiss (York University), as well as researcher-parent Dr. Janet McLaughlin (Wilfred Laurier), Matthew Ley (host) will discuss the current research on how autistic children and their families have been impacted by the pandemic but also ways in which families have been able to cope and thrive.
