The student loans you received through OSAP are issued by the National Student Loan Service Centre (NSLSC). The NSLSC uses your last confirmed study period with OSAP to determine when you will have to start repaying your loan. If you are returning to studies full-time without the assistance of Full-Time OSAP, you can keep your loans interest and payment-free by applying for Continuation of Interest-Free Status (CIFS).
Applying for CIFS is now easier than ever. You no longer need to submit a signed application in-person to the Awards Office. Instead, complete the online application at ontario.ca/osap. Submitting the application online will only take a few seconds and you will have the added benefit of being able to track your application’s status through your OSAP account.

When you log into your OSAP account, you will notice the option to start a new Continuation of Interest-Free Status application or check the status of an already submitted one. When you start a new application, you will be asked to confirm your personal information. Then, you will be asked to provide details about your study period.
School and study period information
Use the following 20-21 study period start and end dates:
Summer 2021 – May 6, 2021 – August 25, 2021
Fall 2021 – September 8, 2021 – December 22, 2021
Winter 2022 – January 8, 2022 – April 26, 2022
Click submit and we will process your application after your study period starts. If we can confirm you are in full-time studies, the NSLSC will be notified and you may not have to make payments on your outstanding full-time loans from OSAP.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible to apply for, and receive interest-free status, you:
- are not submitting an OSAP Application for Full-Time Students for your study period,
- have outstanding full-time loans from OSAP, and
- are now in full-time studies or within 15 days of starting full-time studies
