Project Description:

Different studies have shown that the efficiency of the backwashing step determines the efficiency and the success of the entire filtration run. Therefore, in order to optimize the performance of a biofilter the backwashing step has to be optimized. The objective of my research is to find an optimal backwashing procedure by investigating the effect of different backwashing techniques, through varying their intensity, durations, flowrates and combination of air and water flows at different temperatures on the duration and intensity of the ripening period as well as on filter recovery and overall filter effluent quality.
