Welcome to the BDM FAQ page. In an attempt to make it easier to find answers to your questions we have organized the FAQs into categories.<\/p>\n

How can I get access to BDM and the documents I need to work with?<\/a><\/dt>


\n<\/strong>Access to BDM is based upon the documents that you require access to.\u00a0 You will first need to determine what documents you need access to and the business office that owns those documents.\u00a0 Once you have this worked out then you will need to contact the BDM Functional Specialist<\/a> in that business office to request the access you require.
\n<\/p><\/dd>

How do I find the full computer name of my PC?<\/a><\/dt>

  1. Click on the Windows Start button to open the start menu<\/li>\n
  2. From the Start menu select Control Panel<\/li>\n
  3. On the Control Panel select System and Security<\/li>\n
  4. From the System and Security screen select System<\/li>\n
  5. On the System screen locate the Computer Name listed under the Computer Name, domain and workgroup settings section<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    When I try to log in to Web Access directly it tells me my password is not valid<\/a><\/dt>


    \n<\/strong>If you are trying to access\u00a0Web Access directly you must do so using your Banner\/MC1 username and password credentials.\u00a0 In order for\u00a0Web Access to know what those credentials are you must first log on to Banner and launch Web Access from a Banner form.\u00a0 This action will synchronize your Banner credentials with Web Access and BDM.\u00a0 If you have changed you Banner password recently then you need to go through Banner.\u00a0 Password changes in Banner or MC1 do not synchronize to BDM.

    Why don't Word and Excel documents open in MS Word or MS Excel?<\/a><\/dt>


    \nMS Word and MS Excel are not considered to be native file formats for BDM and Web Access. They are referred to as Foreign Files. When these file types are opened in Web Access they get “converted” to a more text based format for viewing.

    Why can't I query a Multiple Application Query on certain document types?<\/a><\/dt>


    \nMultiple Application Queries will only allow you to search on document types that are common to ALL the applications being joined by the query. If a particular document type does not exist in one of the applications behind the query it will not be available.

    Does it matter what browser I use when using Web Access or when viewing documents?<\/a><\/dt>


    \nNo.\u00a0 Web Access is a browser agnostic application. It works equally in Internet Exlorer, Chrome, FireFox and Safari. It also works equally on Windows or MAC.

    Can I use Web Access on my MAC?<\/a><\/dt>


    \n<\/strong>Yes.\u00a0\u00a0 Web Access is a web based application that can be used equally on Windows and MAC.

    Can I open and view documents from Carleton Central on my MAC?<\/a><\/dt>


    \nYes.\u00a0 The integration from Carleton Central to BDM is not operating system specific.\u00a0 It is also not browser specific.

    Why can't I scroll through all the pages of a document using a vertical scroll bar?<\/a><\/dt>


    \nWeb Access does not provide scroll bars. Page scrolling is done using the NEXT PAGE, PREVIOUS PAGE menu items in the Document Viewer.
