Annotation
\n<\/strong>A\u00a0note, text\u00a0or shape added to a document page.\u00a0 Annotations are overlayed onto the document page.\u00a0 Placing annotations on a document page is referred to as Annotating.<\/p>\n

Application<\/strong>
\nA\u00a0structure in BDM\u00a0that acts as the storage\u00a0area for documents\u00a0and their metadata.\u00a0\u00a0A BDM application will typically be associated with\u00a0a specific functional area or business process.\u00a0\u00a0 An application would be\u00a0synonymous with\u00a0a filing cabinet\u00a0or filing cabinet drawer in the paper document world.<\/p>\n

Batch
\n<\/strong>A collection of documents and or pages that have been scanned or imported into Web Access but have not\u00a0 yet been indexed.\u00a0 Documents can be scanned into batches before they are indexed.\u00a0 This allows for the scanning and indexing functions to be split between different users.<\/p>\n

Batch Status
\n<\/strong>Each batch has a status visible in the Batch List in Web Access.\u00a0 If the status is\u00a0“Scanning” or “Indexing”, the batch is currently in use and\u00a0cannot be selected for indexing.\u00a0 Only batches with a status of “Idle” can be selected for indexing.<\/p>\n

BDM<\/strong>
\nThe acronym for Banner Document Management.\u00a0 BDM is the collection of OpenText software (AppXtender and Web Access) and the integration technologies that bind these software products to Banner.<\/p>\n

Document
\n<\/strong>An object or group of objects stored in an application and identified by unique sets of index information. Each page of a document is a single object, such as a scanned image file or a word processing file. A document can be as small as one page, or it can contain thousands of pages.<\/p>\n

Document Type
\n<\/strong>Document types are categories of documents that are specific to a business office or process.\u00a0 Examples include Transcripts, Letters of Offer, Invoices, Test Scores, Resumes, etc.<\/p>\n

Importing
\n<\/strong>The process of moving an electonic file stored on a PC or MAC into BDM.\u00a0 Importing is synonymous with the concept of uploading.<\/p>\n

Index
\n<\/strong>A group of fields or data values that\u00a0uniquely define a document. When a document is stored in an application it must be tagged with a predefined set of data values that allow it to be searched on and easily retrieved.\u00a0 Index values can be mandatory or optional.<\/p>\n

Indexing
\n<\/strong>The act of tagging a document with data values and saving it to BDM.\u00a0 Indexing in BDM is synonymous with the act of filing in a paper based document filing system.<\/p>\n

Page
\n<\/strong>A single object. In BDM, a single page can be a word processing document that contains what would usually be considered multiple pages. Each page of a document shares the document’s index values.<\/p>\n

Redaction
\n<\/strong>A special type of annotation that hides information on a document or page.\u00a0 A redaction makes use of an opaque fill color to cover the sensitive information thereby hiding it from users.<\/p>\n

Scanning
\n<\/strong>The process of converting paper documents and pages to electronic or digitized files.<\/p>\n

Web Access
\n<\/strong>The web application that provides an interface through which users can store, retrieve, view, and process documents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
