A student may use credits earned at an international university to fulfill requirements of a Carleton degree <strong>only<\/strong> if they have received prior approval in the form of a <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/exchanges\/letter-of-permission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Letter of Permission (LOP) from the Registrar\u2019s Office<\/a>. Courses may be completed in any academic term, however there are different application deadlines relevant to each term (see below).&nbsp; *Tuition fees are paid to the host university and not Carleton.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"academic-eligibility-for-bgins-students\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Academic Eligibility for BGInS Students<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be in Good Standing in the BGInS program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must present a minimum overall CGPA of 5.0 and a Major CGPA of 6.5 (Major CGPA includes GINS courses + specialization courses)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must meet Carleton residency requirements, please consult with the Registrar\u2019s Office for full details<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"considerations\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Considerations:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The proposed course(s) for the Letter of Permission must be acceptable to your program. For example, students will not receive approval for a first year course if they have already completed the maximum number of 1000 level courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Course(s) completed while on a LOP must be within a discipline offered at Carleton, and courses which have been successfully completed may not be repeated on a Letter of Permission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"application-procedure\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Procedure:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications are submitted online via Carleton Central under Student Online Applications in the Main Menu. Click <strong>Letter of Permission Applications<\/strong>&nbsp;to begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"important-annual-dates\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Annual Dates:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>*Please be advised that based on the evolving situation with COVID-19 the Registrar\u2019s Office has further delayed the opening date for Fall and Winter Letters of Permission Applications to May 1, and we will reassess at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>November 1: <\/strong>Application deadline for Winter term LOP<strong><br>\n<\/strong><strong>March 1:<\/strong> Application deadline for Summer term LOP<br>\n<strong>July 1:<\/strong> Application deadline for Fall term LOP<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Many institutions will ask that you submit an application for \u201cvisiting student status\u201d and will provide you with the appropriate dates for course registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"required-documentation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Required Documentation:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students taking courses on an international Letter of Permission must complete the Carleton travel registry and the applicable <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/bgins\/forms-letter-of-permission\/\">forms and documents for Letter of Permission<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>Only students who have received written confirmation that they can do an international Letter of Permission should submit these forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"need-more-information-about-the-letter-of-permission\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Need More Information About the Letter of Permission?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can read this <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/registrar\/letter-of-permission\/\">Guide to the Letter of Permission<\/a> or contact the Registrar&#8217;s&nbsp;Office at <a href=\"mailto:registrar@carleton.ca\">registrar@carleton.ca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Letter of Permission (LOP) allows students to complete a course(s) at an accredited international university with which Carleton does not have a pre-arranged exchange agreement.
