Through hands-on assignments, community connections, and critical reflection, students will gain insights into the rewards and challenges of global engagement. For Summer 2019, students will travel to Belize to partner with the Center for Engaged Learning Abroad (CELA).

This year’s course will focus on the implications of the landmark 2015 Caribbean Court of Justice consent ruling on the land rights of indigenous Maya communities in Southern Belize. During a two-week field experience in Belize, students will plan and execute an asset mapping process alongside Maya communities in the Toledo District. Dr. Peter Andrée, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science, will be the instructor for this experience.

This course is open to all students with third year standing by Summer 2019. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If the course is full, priority will be given to BGINS students completing their International Experience Requirement.

For more information, please visit the GINS 3200 website.
