Biography<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Waller R. Newell is Professor of Political Science and Philosophy and co-director of the Centre for Liberal Education and Public Affairs at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.<\/p>\n

He was educated at the University of Toronto, where he received a B.A. in Arts and Sciences and an M.A. in Political Economy, and at Yale University, where he received a Ph.D. in Political Science. He has been a John Adams Fellow at the University of London (1997), a Fellow of the Eccles Centre at the British Library (1997), a Fellow of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. (1990-91), the National Humanities Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (1985-86), and a Junior Fellow of Massey College, the University of Toronto (1974-75). He has also held a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship for University Teachers and a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Postdoctoral Fellowship.<\/p>\n

Emberley). He is the author of numerous articles on classical, Renaissance and modern European political philosophy and literature in journals includingThe American Political Science Review\u00a0<\/em>,\u00a0Political Theory\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0\u00a0History of European Ideas\u00a0<\/em>. His topical journalism and cultural commentary have appeared in\u00a0The Weekly Standard\u00a0<\/em>,The Idler\u00a0<\/em>,\u00a0Books in Canada\u00a0<\/em>,\u00a0The Literary Review of Canada\u00a0<\/em>,\u00a0The National Post\u00a0<\/em>,\u00a0The New York Daily News\u00a0<\/em>,\u00a0The World and I\u00a0<\/em>,\u00a0Kritika & Kontext\u00a0<\/em>,\u00a0American Educator, The New Federation\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0The Ottawa Citizen.\u00a0<\/em>He has been a contributing Editor to\u00a0Books in Canada<\/em>and an editorial board member for\u00a0The Literary Review of Canada\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Kritika & Kontext\u00a0<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Professor Newell has been interviewed more than eighty times for television and radio in the United States and Canada in major venues including New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver and Toronto. Highlights include ABC World News Overnight, the Fox News Network, K-Rock Magazine, WPXN-TV, National Public Radio, USA Radio Network, Family News and Focus, Talk America Radio Network, the Catholic Radio Network and CBC Newsworld.<\/p>\n
