Kathleen Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Humanities and a Combined Honours in Philosophy in the Spring of 2014. She won a prestigious Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) to\u00a0pursue a Masters of Public Administration at Queen’s University this coming fall. She graduated with high distinction and won the Humanities Medal.<\/p>\n
Kathleen maintained Dean’s List standing in all of her years of study at Carleton. Going into first year she received the Richard Lewar Scholarship\u00a0for academic achievement and community involvement, and the Lee Valley\u00a0award\u00a0for having the highest average for an incoming student in the Humanities program. In second year she received\u00a0the Beverly Krugel award for the highest average for a continuing Humanities student.\u00a0She did a study year abroad\u00a0in Leuven, Belgium, in her third year and wrote an undergraduate thesis on the political rights of Indigenous peoples in Canada, which received a score of 19\/20.<\/p>\n
During her time at Carleton, Katheleen\u00a0was active in the social life of the College of the Humanities. She participated in the annual performance of a Greek tragedy, playing Ismene in\u00a0Antigone\u00a0<\/i>and starring as Medea in\u00a0Medea<\/i>.<\/p>\n
In her final year, she took on the role of a\u00a0residence fellow, an intensive\u00a0community leadership position which involved providing direct\u00a0support\u00a0for the personal, academic, health, and mental health needs of students living in residence, as well as planning and implementing\u00a0building and residence-wide programming.<\/p>\n
Kathleen was also involved in the wider Ottawa community, including performing with the St. Alban’s music ensemble and singing in the St. Matthew’s Women’s and Girl’s choir.<\/p>\n
