The Bachelor of Humanities<\/h3>\n

\"Essay<\/a><\/p>\n

Carleton University’s\u00a0Bachelor of Humanities<\/a>\u00a0is\u00a0Canada’s\u00a0premier program in the Great Books<\/strong>. Humanities students\u00a0read the most influential books<\/a> and study the most exciting ideas<\/a>\u00a0in all the traditional arts disciplines\u2014literature, philosophy, history, art, music, political theory, and religion.<\/p>\n

Students in the Bachelor of Humanities enthusiastically debate questions such as: What is the good life? What is the best form of political organization? What is the nature of beauty? Graduates of the program continue on to a wide variety of\u00a0interesting careers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Students are encouraged to pair their Humanities core with more detailed study of\u00a0a particular subject, by doing a combined honours or a minor. The Bachelor of Humanities is unique in offering a degree in\u00a0Humanities and Biology<\/a>, for students planning to go to Medical School, and a joint degree in\u00a0Journalism and Humanities<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Essay Contest<\/h3>\n

The Bachelor of Humanities invites submissions for its third\u00a0annual\u00a0High School Essay Contest<\/strong>. All High School or C\u00c9GEP students are invited to submit an essay, of no more than 1000 words in length, answering the following question:<\/p>\n

What is a Great Book?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The contest winner and runner-up, as chosen by a panel of professors in the Bachelor\u00a0of Humanities program, will receive\u00a0$500<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0$250<\/b>\u00a0respectively.\u00a0 The deadline for submissions is\u00a017 January 2016<\/strong>, and contest results will be announced by the end of March 2016.<\/p>\n

Submission Instructions<\/h3>\n

Essays must include a\u00a0title page that clearly indicates the author\u2019s name, High School or C\u00c9GEP, and contact information<\/strong>\u00a0(including a phone number and email address).<\/p>\n

Essays must\u00a0be submitted electronically<\/strong>, by filling out the following form, and attaching the essay in Microsoft Word or PDF format.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
