Her work on environmental links to diabetes demonstrates how academic discovery can drive real-world impact.<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>Jenny Bruin, a professor in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department of Biology<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biochem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Institute of Biochemistry<\/a>, is addressing a growing public health concern: the link between environmental pollutants and rising diabetes rates. Her research investigates how these pollutants affect insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, which regulate blood sugar.
