SUMMARY:Biology Series Seminar: Dr Nathan Morehouse
DESCRIPTION:“ Colors, Choices, and Conflict: Evolutionary Insights from the Reproductive Biology of Butterflies”

Dr Nathan Morehouse
Assistant Professor
University of Pittsburgh

Abstract: Sexual selection can act on reproductive interactions before, during and after copulation. Connecting these distinct selective episodes is critical for understanding the net influence of sexual selection, yet this synthesis remains an ongoing challenge for the field. Dr. Morehouse will describe his recent work to integrate pre- and post-copulatory sexual selection in the Cabbage White butterfly, with a focus on female preferences for male color ornaments and the co-evolution of male ejaculate proteins and the female reproductive tract.
