Karen is a Research Scientist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, who focuses on bringing knowledge together to assess aquatic ecosystem change in the Canadian Arctic. Together, with people from communities across the Canadian Arctic, she leads a team that researches fish biodiversity change and coastal ecosystems using community-led approaches in projects called Arctic Salmon and Arctic Coast. Originally from Winnipeg, she completed her BSc at Queen’s University, her MSc at the University of Waterloo, her PhD at the University of Manitoba, and was a Liber Ero postdoctoral fellow at the University of Victoria. She has lived in the North and has researched fish, and especially salmon, in Norway, in the US (Washington, Oregon, and Alaska), and in northern Canada.
