{"id":4491,"date":"2015-06-12T16:21:34","date_gmt":"2015-06-12T20:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/?post_type=cu_event&#038;p=4491"},"modified":"2026-02-23T15:51:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T20:51:57","slug":"seminar-dr-philip-eppard-dr-larry-gilbertson","status":"publish","type":"cu_event","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/event\/seminar-dr-philip-eppard-dr-larry-gilbertson\/","title":{"rendered":"Seminar: Dr. Philip Eppard &#038; Dr. Larry Gilbertson"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"mb-6 cu-pageheader cu-component-updated md:mb-12\">\n    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 pb-5 after:w-10 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px\">\n        \n    <\/h1>\n    \n        <\/header>\n\n    \n    \n    \n    \n    <div class=\"cu-buttongroup cu-component-updated flex flex-wrap md:flex-1 gap-3 md:gap-5 justify-start\">\n                                                                        <\/div>\n    \n<p>Please join us next week for a lecture on,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cNew Technologies to Improve Agriculture &#8211; Science, Safety and Benefits\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr.&nbsp; Philip Eppard&nbsp;&amp; Dr. Larry Gilbertson<br>\n<\/strong>University Engagement Lead<br>\nMonsanto Company<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Philip Eppard<\/strong> is currently the Academic Engagement Lead for Monsanto.&nbsp; His extended team is responsible for outreach to universities around the world on topics of mutual interest such as Ag. biotechnology and chemistry, and sustainability.&nbsp; Prior to this role, he worked in Regulatory Affairs where his teams were responsible for global approvals for multiple agricultural biotech plant products and veterinary pharmaceutical products.&nbsp; He has authored over 25 peer-reviewed research publications.&nbsp; Dr. Eppard joined Monsanto after receiving his Ph.D. in 1985 from Cornell University and holds masters and undergraduate degrees from the University of Minnesota.&nbsp; He is a native of southeastern Minnesota where his parents were dairy farmers.&nbsp; He also was a Peace Corps volunteer during the mid-70s.&nbsp; He and his wife, Barb, have three children and reside in the St. Louis area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr. Larry Gilbertson<\/strong> joined Monsanto as a post-doc in 1995 and became a regular employee in 1997. He is a molecular biologist and he has spent his entire Monsanto career&nbsp;in Ag Biotech. Most of his projects have focused on enabling&nbsp;vector technology, primarily in plant transformation (finding better ways to make transgenic plants) and in RNAi.&nbsp;He moved to Cambridge in 2014 where he is currently the site lead, in&nbsp;the Enabling Technologies program.&nbsp;He also spends time in prospecting activities, and education related activities.
