Students will explore all areas in Biochemistry including proteomics, genomics, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and physiology, toxicology, food science, and cross-species comparison outside of human biochemistry.<\/p>\n<p>Graduate students will\u00a0conduct their thesis research in laboratory facilities utilized by their Carleton supervisors or off campus at Institutes like Health Canada, Environment Canada, Agri-foods and Agriculture Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the National Research Council of Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or in industry.<\/p>\n<p>[<a href=\"#top\">top<\/a>]<\/p>\n<h2>Specialization in Bioi<a id=\"bioinf\"><\/a>nformatics<\/h2>\n<div class=\"columns\"><div class=\"columns__two\"><ul>\n<li>MSc<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div class=\"columns__two\"><div class=\"\">\n\t<p>\n\t\t<a class=\"button__red button__red--solid\" href=\"https:\/\/graduate.carleton.ca\/program\/bioinformatics-collaborative-collaborative-specializations\/\"  rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apply Now<\/a>\n\t<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/CU-FGPA-Science-Bioinformatics-2022.pdf\">Bioinformatics Brochure<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bioinformatics is an increasingly important scientific discipline dedicated to the pursuit of fundamental questions about the structure, function and evolution of biological entities through the design and application of computational approaches. Fundamental research in these areas is expected to increase our understanding of human health and disease which will lead to innovation in industry.<\/p>\n<p>Carleton&#8217;s location in Ottawa allows access to many government departments and headquarters for organizations and industries. These toxic substances can either be organic or inorganic, synthetic or natural materials.<\/p>\n<p>Environmental toxicology further extends to aspects of chemical transport, fate, persistence and biological accumulation of toxic substances and their effects at the population and community levels.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you wish to be exempted from any <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/grad\/gradprograms\/chemicalandenvironmentaltoxicology\/\">introductory toxicology courses<\/a>, it is your responsibility to provide justification.
