They improve our mood and our cognitive abilities. They have been shown to decrease pain during painful medical procedures and, of course, they alleviate stress.\u201d &#8211; Prof. Rachel Buxton<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with researchers from Michigan State, Colorado State and the U.S. National Park Service, Buxton conducted a meta-analysis of research into the health benefits of different types of nature sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Published in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/118\/14\/e2013097118\/tab-article-info\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America<\/a>, the researchers found that people who listened to natural sounds had health outcomes that were 180 per cent better than those who did not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/story\/nature-sounds-alleviate-stress\/\">more&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThere are pretty striking health benefits to the sounds of nature,\u201d says Rachel Buxton, a research scientist in Carleton\u2019s&nbsp;Department of Biology. \u201cNatural sounds alleviate stress and provide a range of health benefits.
