{"id":12463,"date":"2022-07-04T09:26:19","date_gmt":"2022-07-04T13:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/?p=12463"},"modified":"2022-07-04T09:32:28","modified_gmt":"2022-07-04T13:32:28","slug":"dr-jenny-bruin-early-researcher-award-recognized-by-the-province","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/2022\/dr-jenny-bruin-early-researcher-award-recognized-by-the-province\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Jenny Bruin Awarded Early Researcher Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/people\/jenny-bruin\/\"><strong>Dr. Jenny Bruin,<\/strong><\/a> who was a recipient of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/early-researcher-awards\">Early Researcher Award.<\/a> This award is a $140,000 award administered by the Province of Ontario to help promising, recently-appointed Ontario researchers build their research teams of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and research associates.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bruin&#8217;s research provides insight into how modifiable risk factors in our environment may be driving increased rates of diabetes across Ontario. Dr. Bruin is cross-appointed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/\">Department of Biology<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biochem\/\">Institute of Biochemistry <\/a>and leads the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bruinlab.com\/\">The Bruin Lab.<\/a> The lab&#8217;s research focuses on whether environmental contaminants such as flame retardants, pesticides and other agricultural chemicals play an important role in causing diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bruin interests are in fluorinated chemicals that are regularly used in everyday products such as water repellency on rain jackets and coatings on non-stick pans.
