The committee has promoted and advocated for equity, diversity and inclusion (successful nominations of three persons for the Periodic Table of Younger Chemists) and worked to advance diversity and equity issues in the Canadian Society for Chemistry policies (Conference Code of Conduct), practices (CCCE Daycare, SIQ), and activities (CCCE Presidents Events and EDI sessions). Over the last year we have been working on the development of a strategic plan, aligning the priorities with actionable deliverables. During this talk the I will present the current draft of the strategic plan and welcome feedback and input from you – the chemistry community.

About Stephanie MacQuarrie

Dr. MacQuarrie is a Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at CBU and Associate Dean of the School of Technology and Science. She obtained her BSc from Mount Allison University in 1996. She continued to pursue chemistry in graduate school at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where she earned her PhD in organic chemistry in 2005. In 2005, she accepted a post-doctoral position in Dr. Crudden’s group at Queen’s University. Stephanie’s research includes finding high value applications for waste streams, reducing the total carbon footprint of advanced materials and the development of functional materials for electronics, catalysis and absorption. Her research program is funded through NSERC DG as well as industry partnerships (Engage grants, PnI vouchers). Stephanie has Adjunct status at Memorial University where she supervises graduate students in both Chemistry and Engineering. Over the last 13 years, Stephanie has developed comprehensive and far-reaching initiatives (Promo-Science funded Island WISE) aimed at encouraging and promoting interest and public awareness as well as growing a sense of wonder about science in young girls in rural communities.

You’re Invited!
