{"id":16650,"date":"2024-12-04T15:56:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-04T20:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/?p=16650"},"modified":"2024-12-04T15:56:30","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T20:56:30","slug":"animal-welfare-and-conservation-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/2024\/animal-welfare-and-conservation-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Animal Welfare and Conservation Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Wilde Tracks<\/strong>\u2019 veterinary and conservation programs in Namibia, Malawi, and South Africa offer tailored trips for students and faculty, with the option of a Wilde Tracks representative or your own staff member leading the group.<\/p>\n<p>The programs focus on wildlife conservation and animal welfare, providing opportunities to work directly with animals and contribute to important projects.<\/p>\n<p>Program highlights include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>South Africa<\/strong>:\u00a0 Learn all aspects of game capture and wildlife medicine. Past groups have worked with a variety of species, including dehorning rhinos, giraffe translocation, and mass capture of antelope species. Gain experience using dart guns and have the opportunity to learn how to operate them from a helicopter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Malawi<\/strong>:\u00a0 Engage in a One Health approach while working in a Big 5 reserve. Activities include predator collaring and sterilization programs, as well as dog sterilizations, vaccinations and general veterinary care.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Namibia<\/strong>:\u00a0 Assist with rhino dehorning and game capture, focusing on species such as roan and sable.
