Teaching Achievement Award<\/a>
\nThomas Sherratt <\/strong><\/a>, Professor, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science
\nProject:\u00a0 Web Portal to Teach the Fitting of Models to Data<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0Prof. Sherratt is a behavioural ecologist, interested in a wide range of natural phenomena from mimicry in insects to the evolution of aging. He currently teaches statistics and computer modelling to undergraduates and graduates. He will develop an interactive website to complement a book he is currently writing. The book and website will present statistics as the science of fitting of models to data, and will include not just the theory, but many of practical examples.<\/p>\n

Professional Achievement Award<\/a>
\nIain McKinnell <\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0 Instructor II, \u00a0 Department of Biology, Faculty of Science
\nIain McKinnell has been at Carleton since September 2010. His research background is in embryology and developmental biology \u2013 why do anatomical structures take the form they do and what controls these processes? These are the types of questions that drive his teaching interest and, over the coming years, he will develop and refine both his lecture and lab-based courses to engage students on these fundamental questions and expand their interest in the fields of anatomy and physiology.<\/p>\n

Research Achievement Award<\/a>
\nSteven Cooke<\/strong><\/a>, Associate Professor, Institute of Environmental Science and Department of Biology, Faculty of Science
\nProject:\u00a0 Facilitating the Recovery of Angled Fish that are Released\u00a0<\/span>Professor Cooke studies how marine and freshwater fish respond to various natural and anthropogenic stressors.\u00a0 Using concepts and tools from physiology, behaviour and even social science, he addresses pressing management and conservation issues related to hydropower, recreational fisheries, climate change, and restoration ecology.\u00a0 With this award, he will focus on strategies for facilitating recovery of fish that are exhausted from fisheries interactions.<\/p>\n
