{"id":8561,"date":"2020-01-08T16:06:22","date_gmt":"2020-01-08T21:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/?p=8561"},"modified":"2020-03-10T10:51:39","modified_gmt":"2020-03-10T14:51:39","slug":"biology-department-mourns-the-loss-of-fareed-arasteh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/2020\/biology-department-mourns-the-loss-of-fareed-arasteh\/","title":{"rendered":"Biology Department Mourns the Loss of Fareed Arasteh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Biology is mourning the tragic loss of two members of our community.<\/p>\n<p>Fareed Arasteh, a PhD student in biology, and biology alumnus Mansour Pourjam, were aboard the Ukrainian airliner that crashed in Tehran killing all 176 passengers and crew, including 63 Canadians.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8564 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fareed-Arasteh-240x305.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fareed-Arasteh-240x305.jpg 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fareed-Arasteh-160x203.jpg 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fareed-Arasteh.jpg 253w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fareed was on his way back to Canada to resume his PhD studies in Ashkan Golshani\u2019s lab. Fareed joined us in 2019 as a PhD student.\u00a0 He will be remembered as a very hard working student\/colleague who was striving to make an impact in his field. He will be greatly missed.<\/p>\n<p>The Ottawa Citizen wrote about Fareed, after speaking with his PhD supervisor and a longtime friend.
