In addition, members typically serve on one or two of the Board\u2019s standing Committees, who each meet three to five times per year with varying dates\/times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full meeting schedule is provided to members in advance. Governors are provided with an electronic meeting binder approximately one week in advance, which includes all materials to review in preparation for the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"important-dates-and-deadlines\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Dates and Deadlines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Date<\/th><th>Step<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>November 28, 2025<\/td><td>Web application opens<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>February 6, 2026<\/td><td>Deadline for applications<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>February 2026<\/td><td>Governance Committee Meeting\u2014applications to be presented<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>June 2026<\/td><td>Candidate approval<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"about-the-board\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Board<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton\u2019s Board of Governors are a diverse group of 32 volunteers with a unique understanding of higher education and its force for good.&nbsp; The Board is responsible for oversight of the university\u2019s governance and administration, which includes approving budgetary decisions and establishing policies.&nbsp; The primary function of the Board is strategic oversight that is removed from the day-to-day decision-making of the university. The university\u2019s administration presents information, seeks advice and requests the approval of proposals by the Board of Governors.&nbsp; All of the Board members are volunteers with the exception of the President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governors owe a fiduciary duty to Carleton University as a whole, which consists of a duty of care, diligence and loyalty.&nbsp; As fiduciaries, members of the Board must act honestly, in good faith and at all times in the best interests of the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"standing-committees\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Standing Committees<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There are six standing committees of the Board. Governors typically serve on one or two of these committees each year during their term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Audit and Risk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building Program<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advancement and University Relations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Executive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Governance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"commitment-to-diversity\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Commitment to Diversity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Carleton University is strongly committed to fostering diversity within its community as a source of excellence, cultural enrichment and social strength.
