{"id":658,"date":"2019-09-10T15:23:47","date_gmt":"2019-09-10T19:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/bprc\/?p=658"},"modified":"2019-09-13T17:07:48","modified_gmt":"2019-09-13T21:07:48","slug":"bprc-students-take-1st-prize-in-international-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/bprc\/2019\/bprc-students-take-1st-prize-in-international-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"BPRC students take 1st prize in international competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BPRC students Luminita Dumitrascu, Tareq Abuimara, Michael Gutland, Larissa Ide and Adrian Soble recently won first place in the Student Modelling Competition, organized as part of the 16th Conference of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA),\u00a0 2-4 September 2019 in Rome, Italy. They beat out 11 other international teams to win this prestigious honour.<\/p>\n<p>A huge congratulations to our students!<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Below is a brief description of the project:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The focus of the competition was to identify the best energy retrofit measures for an historic building, aiming to improve its energy performance while respecting the heritage values of the building and improving occupant comfort. The main tasks performed to achieve the goal of the project were as follow: Modelling and simulation of the existing building; Building energy consumption and indoor environmental quality assessment; Buildings performance enhancement using various retrofit measures; Building daylighting performance and visual comfort assessment; Building performance optimization and retrofit measures prioritization.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Each of the three finalist teams (out of 12 submissions) gave a presentation at the conference in Rome to determine the winner of the competition. Part of the assessment was the final presentation and response to queries from the competition committee and the audience.
