Immigration and Social Policy<\/strong><\/b><\/h3>\n

Globalization, the post-2008 economic crisis, rising inequalities, low birth rates, and aging populations make immigration and social policies a primary concern of policymakers in Canada, European countries, and the European Union. There are striking similarities in the challenges these actors face as they seek to maintain social cohesion. While demands for the recognition of ethnic, religious, linguistic, and cultural differences are growing, public opinion in many jurisdictions is becoming less accepting of such recognition. The balance between immigration and security concerns is sometimes difficult to find. At the same time, high and increasing rates of poverty and unemployment lead to social exclusion and the challenge of identifying policies to foster more inclusive societies. These concerns require innovative policy solutions. This research group disseminates both European and Canadian research findings on innovative policies and best practices in the social and immigration policy domains.<\/p>\n

Politique Sociale et Immigration<\/strong><\/b><\/h3>\n

La mondialisation, la crise \u00e9conomique apr\u00e8s-2008, l\u2019augmentation des in\u00e9galit\u00e9s, le faible taux de natalit\u00e9 et le vieillissement des populations font des politiques sociales et d\u2019immigration un enjeu de premi\u00e8re importance pour les d\u00e9cideurs politiques au Canada, dans les pays europ\u00e9ens et l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne. Il existe des similitudes frappantes dans les d\u00e9fis auxquels ces acteurs sont confront\u00e9s en tentant de maintenir la coh\u00e9sion sociale. Alors que la demande de reconnaissance publique des diff\u00e9rences ethniques, religieuses, linguistiques et culturelles grandit de plus en plus, l\u2019opinion publique dans plusieurs juridictions devient quant \u00e0 elle de moins en moins indulgente face \u00e0 une telle reconnaissance. L\u2019\u00e9quilibre entre les questions d\u2019immigration et de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 est parfois difficile \u00e0 trouver. En m\u00eame temps, l\u2019augmentation des hauts taux de pauvret\u00e9 et de ch\u00f4mage m\u00e8ne \u00e0 l\u2019exclusion sociale, d\u2019o\u00f9 le d\u00e9fi d\u2019identifier les politiques qui promeuvent des soci\u00e9t\u00e9s plus inclusives. Ces pr\u00e9occupations n\u00e9cessitent des solutions politiques innovatrices. Ce groupe de recherche diffuse les r\u00e9sultats d\u2019\u00e9tudes canadiennes et europ\u00e9ennes sur les politiques novatrices et sur les meilleures pratiques dans les domaines d\u2019immigration et de politique sociale.<\/p>\n
