Working Policy Paper (August 2009) by Patricia Reid<\/p>\n

This research was completed as part of an internship at the Institute for Ecological Economy\u00a0Research (Institut f\u00fcr \u00f6kologische Wirtschaftsforschung, I\u00d6W) in Berlin, Germany, under the\u00a0supervision of Ulrich Petschow. The internship was made possible by the Canada-Europe\u00a0Transatlantic Dialogue. Additional supervision was provided by Prof. Kurt\u00a0H\u00fcbner of the University of British Columbia.<\/p>\n

This policy brief looks to examine the extent to which North American and European countries have used the opportunity offered by the economic crisis in order to introduce measures to combat climate change and to promote a \u201cGreen New Deal.\u201d In particular, it will break down the stimulus packages of Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA) in order to determine which measures can be considered green and whether or not these measures can be considered a Green New Deal.
