We offer a selection of interdisciplinary courses in Canadian Studies that explore big issues and debates facing Canada. Take them as exciting electives or combine them with other courses to complete a Minor. Check back soon for a list of courses offered in Fall 2025 and Winter 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Adding a Minor to your degree allows you to develop another area of expertise – an asset in terms of career paths that you might follow – and expands your options for graduate programs. The\u00a0Minor in Heritage and Conservation<\/strong><\/a> provides students with an introduction to places of value to Canadians and Indigenous peoples from local to national and global perspectives. It builds on the School\u2019s three decades of teaching heritage conservation at the MA level. Some of the issues you will examine include the relationships between power, places, and stories; how different stakeholders are defining heritage values and how conservation policies are evolving; current conflicts about memory and commemoration across Canada; how evolving ideas of cultural landscape and constructions of settler and Indigenous space inform identity in Canada; and how heritage conservation connects with environmental, social, and economic sustainability.\u00a0Most courses include opportunities for experiential learning through engagement with specific places. The minor also includes elective options from many departments with connected areas of study, including African Studies, Architecture, Art History, Environmental Studies, Geography, History, and Indigenous Studies.\u00a0Learn more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
