“The Association for Canadian Studies in the United States<\/strong> (ACSUS<\/a>) is a multi-disciplinary membership based organization committed to raising awareness and understanding of Canada and the bilateral relationship. ACSUS supports research and academic activity through its publications, conferences, and grant programs; promotes the academy through active advocacy and outreach; and positions the community by profiling the scope and diversity of research undertaken by the ACSUS membership in the humanities and social sciences.”<\/p>\n

The School of Canadian Studies is a sponsor<\/strong> <\/a>in this the 26th Biennial conference being held in Washington, DC, November 16th – 19th.<\/p>\n

Director David Carment will be participating in the Enders Symposium (named for the former US Ambassador to Canada) on “The forces that shape the Canada-US Relationship: Domestic and International Determinants” as well as participating in a Roundtable on Pedagogical Issues in teaching Canadian Foreign Policy.<\/p>\n

Richard Nimijean is a panelist on several Roundtables including on Covid-19 and its impact on Higher Education and Constructing Canadian Identity from Abroad: How Externality Influences an Understanding of Canada.<\/p>\n

Doctoral students Victoria Pelky, Gale Franklin, and Breanna Kubat<\/strong> will also be travelling to Washington D.C. to attend and present at the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS)\u2019s biennial conference \u201cCanada: Near and Far\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Victoria, Gale, and Breanna have all been selected to present as part of the Student Colloquium, as well as in the main conference program.<\/p>\n

Victoria Pelky will be presenting her papers entitled \u201cChallenging Social and World Views: Carl Beam\u2019s Indigenization of a Western Art Form as a Form of Activism\u201d<\/em>\u00a0and \u201c<\/strong>Constitutionally Conflicting Bilingualism in Canada: An Analysis of Three Provincial Approaches to Separate French Education Following the Implementation of the Official Languages Act\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Gale Franklin will be presenting her papers entitled \u201cThe Sounds of Whiteness: Listening to the \u201cFreedom Convoy\u201d Occupation of Ottawa, Canada\u201d<\/em> and \u201cTactical Listening amid Displacement and Resettlement: Syrian Refugees\u2019 Musical Experiences in Edmonton, AB\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Breanna Kubat will be presenting her papers entitled \u201c<\/strong>Canadian Universities in the Twenty-First Century: tensions, pressures, and responses\u201d\u00a0<\/em>and \u201cPearsonian Nostalgia: The Utility of Nostalgia as a Political Discourse in the 2015 Rebranding of the Liberal Party of Canada\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
