Yet, confront the question we must, in part because 24 Sussex is, for better or worse, part of our national identity, and our shared history, \u00a0even when that history entails occupying and building on unceded territory.<\/p>\n<p>Our event took place at <em>Carleton\u2019s Dominion Chalmers Centre.<\/em> It was moderated by\u00a0<strong> Andrew Cohen<\/strong>, a recently retired Professor in the School of Journalism at Carleton University and columnist for the Globe and Mail and the Ottawa Citizen. He is a graduate of the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. In a career of 45 years, Andrew has worked in Ottawa, Toronto, Washington, London and Berlin. He is the founding President of Historica Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The panel considered a\u00a0 range of questions and in the process stimulated debate and discussion. We were \u00a0fortunate to have secured the foremost leading experts on the subject who shared with us their views from legal, architectural, conservation and governance\u00a0 perspectives. The panel included:\u00a0<strong>The Honourable Sheila Copps<\/strong>, former Cabinet Minister;\u00a0<strong>Marc Denhez<\/strong>, President of Historic Ottawa Development Inc.;\u00a0<strong>Mark Thompson Brandt<\/strong>, TRACE Architectures Inc.; and\u00a0<strong>Patricia Kell<\/strong>, Executive Director, National Trust for Canada.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The event was a great\u00a0 success.<\/strong><\/em> Over 300 people attended the event in person and virtually. The discussion struck\u00a0 the right balance\u00a0 between informed debate, public consultation and\u00a0 innovative thinking. Our panelists were excellent without exception.
