The Jean Monnet Network on Canada-EU Relations is pleased to host a multi-day online workshop, Facing the Russia Challenge: European and Canadian Perspectives<\/em>, on September 29, 30 and October 6, 2022.<\/p>\n This workshop features presentations by scholars and experts from across Canada and the European Union. One panel on September 30th will be a hybrid format, in person at the University of Latvia and online.<\/p>\n Registration is required to attend the workshop in order to receive the Zoom link. A registration form follows below.<\/p>\n The workshop is co-organized by the University of Latvia and Carleton University, where the Jean Monnet Network is housed (carleton.ca\/caneunet<\/a>).<\/p>\n Background for the workshop:<\/em><\/p>\n Russia\u2019s unprovoked attack on Ukraine has turned into a war that marks the collapse of the European security system as we have known it since the end of World War II. The conflict has challenged the European Union (EU) to reinforce its capacity as a security actor, and to adopt more assertive policies to defend the geopolitical interests of the Union, its Member States, and partner countries. Some of the EU\u2019s responses have required substantial sacrifices, particularly in the field of energy security.
