The Society for History in the Federal Government (SHFG) and Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region (OHMAR) have announced a joint conference to be held April 4-5, 2023<\/strong> at the National Archives II in College Park, Maryland.<\/p>\n

The program committee invites participants to broadly interpret the conference theme, \u201cPublic History in the Digital Age.\u201d Topics might include the historiography of oral history practice and theory; the impact of technology on the practice and sharing of public history; the challenges of managing and distributing data in the digital age; the evolving relationship between public history and the web; oral history programs in federal history offices; and research in the history of the federal government. This expansive conference theme is intended to encourage a lively conversation among oral historians, archivists, and public historians.<\/p>\n

The program committee invites entire panels and roundtables, as well as individual papers. We encourage presentations that include audio\/visual components. We welcome proposals from graduate students, federal historians, public historians, archivists, oral historians,\u00a0information technology professionals, enterprise architects, and scholars from other disciplines.\u00a0We\u00a0encourage\u00a0panels composed of practitioners with a variety of backgrounds and experiences in these topics.<\/p>\n

Paper proposals should include a brief abstract of 250-500 words, a biographical paragraph about the author, and contact information. Panel proposals should include brief abstracts for each paper as well as biographical paragraphs and contact information for each presenter.<\/p>\n

Join us (virtually) on\u00a0March 17, 2023<\/b>\u00a0for the Underhill Graduate Student Colloquium, presented by Carleton\u2019s Department of History.\u00a0 This year\u2019s theme is\u00a0History in Conversation: Collaboration and Interdisciplinarity<\/b>.\u00a0 Our objective is to promote emerging historical research by graduate students, whilst fostering collaboration and interdisciplinarity among our peers.<\/p>\n

History is ever-evolving in scope and breadth. Its medium is no longer confined to written sources, but a collaboration of sources that range from oral histories to digital culture to material culture, and everything in between. History can, and indeed is, continuing to grow from beyond the confines of the academy. For example, the work of #publichistorians<\/a> has mainstreamed such important, collaborative approaches, bringing history to the public and fostering broader engagement. As an emerging cohort of historians, we feel this is integral work.<\/p>\n

With this focus on\u00a0History in Conversation,<\/b> we are looking for MA and PhD submissions from all disciplines that consider the following:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Collaborative approaches<\/b>\u00a0(i.e., working with colleagues across disciplines, employing methodologies from other disciplines, bringing history to the public in new and innovative ways)<\/li>\n
  2. \u00a0Impacts and implications<\/b>\u00a0(i.e., case studies, historiographical or methodological discussions)<\/li>\n
  3. Graduate students outside of the history department whose research has a historical element<\/b>\u00a0(i.e., GIS mapping of historical data, digital humanities, music and theatre with historical influence, policy topics with historical analysis)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
