Learn from the Past to Struggle Today<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Chris Dixon<\/b><\/p>\n

In our present moment of intensifying crisis, many of us are looking for guidance in taking effective action with others to change the world. Past experiences of social movements have much to offer. Learning from such experiences can help us to reckon with the unique and not-so-unique challenges we face, grow our capacities for organizing transformative movements, and find durable inspiration to keep going. This talk will explore the political significance of remembering past struggles and the practical resources this kind of remembering has to offer our efforts today. <\/span><\/p>\n

Are the post-2008 youth-led movements orphaned?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Cihan Erdal<\/b><\/p>\n

This talk draws on Erdal\u2019s award-winning dissertation on youth activism across Europe and asks how young people\u2019s individual and collective imaginations engage with the political mediations of the riotous past. Based on in-depth conversations with young activists in four European cities (Athens, Istanbul, Paris, and Berlin), the talk foregrounds the conceptualization of <\/span>democratic companionship with tradition<\/span><\/i>. It elaborates upon how the temporal order articulated through activist narratives unsettles the hegemonic temporality of neoliberal governance, while also revealing some of its limitations and contradictions.<\/span><\/p>\n
