Bio
Mohamed W. Tawfik is a PhD student in Building Engineering, specializing in Fire Safety Engineering, at Carleton University and a research assistant member of the EMBER Fire Group at Carleton.
His research focuses on understanding the underlying physics of spot fires in the events of wildfires and their impact on Wildland-Urban Interfaces.
Mohamed holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo, where his research focused on microfabrication and sensor technology, and a BSc in Materials Engineering from Ain Shams University. His background combines wildfire science, materials science, solid-state physics, and numerical simulations, contributing to his expertise in fire dynamics and pyrolysis studies. With a strong interest in teaching, Mohamed has worked as a Visiting Lecturer and Teaching Assistant at Carleton University and the American University in Cairo, supporting courses in statics, mechanics, and materials engineering.
He is committed to engineering education, hands-on learning, and student mentorship, and he actively participates in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives within the fire science and engineering communities.
