Description



At Carleton, we aim to provide helpful resources and support services to promote positive mental health and overall well-being.  This lecture seeks to bring awareness to mental health and the journey living with mental health illnesses.



Speaker Bio







Ann Jeffers is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA. Her research focuses on finite element analysis, computational methods, and fire safety engineering, focusing on both structure fires and wildfires. She was co-Editor-in-Chief of Fire Safety Journal from 2016-2018, and she has earned a number of awards including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Harry C. Bigglestone Award. She is an advocate for mental health and uses creative writing to teach others what it is like to live with mental illness. Her forthcoming memoir, Can You Hear the Music? My Journey through Madness, describes her experience being diagnosed with and recovering from bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
