Dr. Oliver Geden will present a lecture, “Dealing with inconsistency: The policy and politics of the European Union’s energy system transformation.” He will provide an assessment of the European Union’s integrated energy and climate policy, which is currently at the intersection of the 1st phase (targets and implemented policies until 2020) and the 2nd phase (targets and yet to implement policies until 2030). Dr. Geden will address some of the details on policies and discuss the politics behind the policies.
Dr. Oliver Geden is the Head of Research for EU/Europe at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) (German Institute for International and Security Affairs) in Berlin with expertise in climate policy and EU energy policy. His current focus includes: Implementation of EU’s 2030 Energy and Climate Targets; EU Energy Union; European Dimension of German Energy Transition; EU in International Climate Negotiations; Climate Engineering; Quality of Scientific Policy Advice; and Strategic Political Planning.
