Immigrant, Muslim, Citizen: A discussion on Muslim rights in Denmark

Islam and Muslims have in the last two decades become a central part of the political debates in most European countries. Denmark is known to be one of the countries where the debates have been most intense and conflict-ridden. Although not all immigrants are Muslims and not all Muslims are immigrants, public debates in continental Europe tend to equate Muslim and immigrant. A growing number of Muslims are, however, 2nd or 3rd generation and many are citizens.

Lene Kühle holds a PhD in Sociology of Religion from Aarhus University (Denmark), where she is currently employed as an associate professor. Her research interests are religion-state relations, religion and politics, Muslims in Europe and general sociological theories.
