The Jean Monnet Network on Transatlantic Trade Politics and CN-Paul M. Tellier Chair on Business and Public Policy at the University of Ottawa are very pleased to co-host a webinar, “Free to Trade: Global Britain and the Sovereignty Trap”<\/strong>, by Professor Gabriel Siles-Br\u00fcgge (University of Warwick).<\/p>\n

About the webinar:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The freedom to negotiate trade agreements was not a key demand of Brexit supporters before and during the 2016 EU referendum. Why, then, has an independent trade policy become so central to the UK Government\u2019s Brexit project? And what are the consequences for the conduct of UK trade negotiations of not having established a clear trade strategy?<\/p>\n

The presentation is based on a book project with Tony Heron (University of York).<\/p>\n

About the speaker: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Gabriel Siles-Br\u00fcgge<\/a> is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Public Policy at the University of Warwick, UK and a current Visiting Scholar in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University. He is also a Specialist Adviser to the UK House of Commons International Trade Committee. Any opinions expressed in this talk are his alone.<\/p>\n

He is the author and co-author of journal articles and books. His recent journal publications include: ‘UK-US Trade Relations and “Global Britain”<\/a>‘,\u00a0The Political Quarterly<\/em>, 92 (4)\u00a0<\/em>(co-authored with Tony Heron) (2021);\u00a0‘Rethinking the Dynamics of Inclusion and Exclusion in Trade Politics<\/a>‘, New Political Economy <\/em>(co-edited with Jean-Baptiste Velut & Louise Dalingwater); \u2018Brexit and trade policy: an analysis of the governance of UK trade policy and what it means for health and social justice<\/a>\u2019,\u00a0Globalization and Health<\/em> (co-authored with May van Schalkwyk, Pepita Barlow, Holly Jarman, Tamara Hervey, and Martin McKee) (2021). Book publications include: TTIP: The Truth about the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(Polity Press) (co-authored with Ferdi De Ville); Nederlandse vertaling<\/a> (Academia Press);\u00a0Deutsche Ausgabe<\/a> (Transcript); and Constructing European Union Trade Policy: A Global Idea of Europe<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(Palgrave Macmillan).<\/p>\n
