The German federal election on February 23 was called after the collapse of Chancellor Olaf Scholz\u2019s three-party government. The campaign has been dominated by debates about economic performance and irregular migration. Christian Democrat Friedrich Merz, who according to opinion polls is most likely to lead the next government, has courted controversy by inviting the far-right to support his parliamentary initiatives on migration management. Some observers have raised doubts about Merz\u2019s promise to maintain a \u201cfirewall\u201d against the far-right after the election. <\/span><\/p>\n
