The Centre for European Studies (EUCE), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Ottawa, is pleased to present as part of the European Perspectives<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Series <\/strong>a special event to mark the 25th anniversary:<\/p>\n

“Fall of the Iron Curtain and the aftermath of the Velvet Revolution: A Roundtable with Ambassadors from the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary”<\/h3>\n

Moderator<\/strong>: Professor Joan DeBardeleben<\/strong>, Institute of European, Eurasian and Russian Studies (EURUS), and Director, Centre for European Studies, EU Centre of Excellence, Carleton University.<\/p>\n

Roundtable participants include: <\/strong>H.E.\u00a0 Andrej Droba<\/strong>, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Canada; H.E. \u00a0Marcin Bosacki<\/strong>, Ambassador of Poland to Canada; H.E. B\u00e1lint \u00d3dor<\/strong>, Ambassador of Hungary to Canada; H.E. Robert Tripes<\/strong> \u2013 Charg\u00e9 d\u00b4affaires a.i. of Czech Republic to Canada.<\/p>\n

The winter of 1989 brought the fall of the Iron Curtain, which led to the peaceful collapse of communist regimes in Central Europe. In commemorating these events, the roundtable participants will discuss a range of topics including the aftermath of the fall of the Iron Curtain; the movement of the V4 countries into the EU and Eurozone; and the past accomplishments as these relate to planning future goals.<\/p>\n

There will be a display of graphic posters donated by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic for public viewing commemorating the historical events.<\/p>\n
